Call for a New Staccato Notes Newsletter Editor!!!

The SMTA publishes a monthly digital newsletter to our membership, detailing upcoming events, introducing new members, and sharing community insight. We are seeking a volunteer to take over as our Newsletter Editor, starting immediately. 

The position holds the following description/requirements:

  • Fluency in email with a max of one-day response time.

  • Highly organized, able to manage and keep track of all materials for publication.

  • Able to meet and maintain deadlines.

  • Members will send material for publication to the newsletter email by the 20th of each month. If you anticipate particular events/teachers needing to publish material, willingness to remind and communicate is a plus! You will compile/format the newsletter to be sent to the Administrative Coordinator on the 1st of each month. 

  • Time requirement can range from 1-5 hours a month, depending on your fluency with formatting software. 

  • Strong skills in formatting software are necessary. Example skills include creating independent text columns, creating headers/borders/margins, cropping pictures, text overlay, etc. 

  • Openness to do the position for a longer-term duration. We are hoping to find someone able to commit to being our editor for the year (and possibly beyond).

This organization runs with the support of our many wonderful volunteers- if you're still looking for a way to get involved, there is always a place in SMTA for you to help out, get connected, learn, and support music education. Ask a board member or email the office to see what might be a good fit for you.

Details for pursuing MTNA certification:

 
 

MTNA offers a national certification program, intended to improve the level of professionalism within the field of applied music teaching while helping the public at large readily identify and connect with skilled music teachers within the community.

 
 
 
 

Common Interest Groups:

Common Interest Groups (CIGs) address members’ interests and needs directly, building on the extraordinary richness and diversity of our community of music teachers.

Our CIGs move SMTA beyond our monthly meetings, into members’ homes and studios all around the city, or online.

If you don’t see a group on a topic you’d like to explore, it’s easy to start your own! Just contact the CIG coordinator with your proposed topic.

Have something pertaining to teaching or professional development you’d like to discuss with other members? Why not start your own CIG? Your group can meet once, or regularly, in-person or online. This is a flexible way to learn more and connect with others on topics of interest.
