SPU Faculty Series presents: Godowsky Festival in Seattle, Feb 13-16

Thursday, February 13th, 2020 at 7:30pm -"Happy birthday, Leopold!"
Dr. Dainius Vaičekonis will perform L. Godowsky’s suite “Triakontameron” written 100 years ago in Seattle. The suite contains 30 pieces of great variety of inspirations including the themes of American Northwest, Europe and Africa culminating in the astounding rendition of the Star Spangled Banner.

Friday, February 14, 2020, 7:30pm - "The Legacy of Leopold Godowsky"
The Steinway Artist, Cuban American pianist, Antonio Iturrioz, will present a lecture-recital on legendary pianist, composer and pedagogue Leopold Godowsky. The lecture will emphasize that as a composer of piano music, Godowsky stands with glorious piano giants - Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninoff and Scriabin. Mr. Iturrioz will also discuss Godowsky’s tribute to the piano literature for the left hand and his pianistic principles that he expounded. Mr. Iturioz will perform Godowsky’s compositions from all the important periods of the composer’s life.

Sunday, February 16th, 2020 at 4pm- "Circle of Friends"

This chamber music concert features works for violin, voice and piano by Godowsky and his friends - legendary violinists Fritz Kreisler and Jasha Heifetz performed by SPU faculty and guests- violinists Marjorie and Ilkka Talvi, soprano Cherie Hughes, pianists Asta Vaičekonis and Dainius Vaičekonis.

All Godowsky Festival events will take place at Nickerson Studios
